WEBSTER, Texas – Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, along with Safe Kids Worldwide and Webster Fire Department, will host a free child car seat check on Friday, July 24, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., at Webster Fire Department. Certified car seat safety technicians will offer free car seat safety checks to ensure car seats are properly installed, children are properly placed in their car seat and confirm whether or not people’s car seats have been recalled.
Safe Kids Worldwide is a global network of organizations devoted to contributing caregivers with useful and confirmed resources to protect kids from everyday injuries. Since 1988, Safe Kids Worldwide has assisted in reducing the U.S. childhood death rate from injury by 55 percent.
According to Safe Kids Worldwide, motor vehicle crashes are a top cause of death to children. They found that seventy-three percent of car seats are not installed or used correctly. Safe Kids Worldwide also found that one in five parents admitted to “bending the rules” when driving, allowing kids to ride without seat belts and without the proper car seat or booster.
“Our goal is to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities due to improper use of child car seats,” said Melanie Martin, Trauma Director at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center. “Events like this help us educate the public on the proper use of car seats and inform them of car seat recalls that they may not be aware of – all of which reduces the number of fatalities.”
The Webster Fire Department is located at 18300 Highway 3, Webster, TX 77598. For more information about this event, visit facebook.com/clearlakehealth, or contact Rita Cunningham at Rita.Cunningham@hcahealthcare.com.
