Webster, TX, May 26, 2016 — Clear Lake Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce Sonia Almendarez, RN and Melissa Barajas, RN as Houston’s “Top 150 Nurses” according to the Houston Chronicle.

Almendarez has a diverse background in nursing, previously serving in surgical services, coronary intensive care, and most recently focusing on national standards of quality care for the sepsis population.

“Nursing is much more than a job to me; it is truly a passion of mine. The gratification I receive from advocating on healthcare issues that affect nurses and the public are why I do what I do,” said Sonia Almendarez, RN. “I am fortunate to work at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center where our nursing team delivers quality care to every patient, every day.”

Clear Lake Regional Medical Center honored ICU nurse Melissa Barajas, RN, on March 10, 2016, with the Daisy Award for extraordinary nursing. The award she received was part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

“Sonia Almendarez and Melissa Barajas not only exemplify the principles this award stands for both on and off the job,” said Andrea Harrow, Chief Nursing Officer at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center. “They personify the heart of nursing. They are both richly deserving of this recognition, and I am very proud of them.”

“The Top 150 Nurses” recognizes nurses for having made a tangible, positive impact in the nursing community. For over a decade, the Houston Chronicle has celebrated outstanding nurses like Sonia and Melissa in this special way. During National Nurse’s Week, the Houston Chronicle will recognize Sonia Almendarez, RN, Melissa Barajas, RN and Clear Lake Regional Medical Center at the Salute to Nurses Luncheon on Thursday, May 5 and in the Salute to Nurses Special Section on Sunday, May 8
