Recent Surgery Includes Houston’s First Successful Tubal Reversal Post-Surgical Pregnancy

Clear Lake Regional Medical Center (CLRMC) announced today that it is the first hospital in Houston’s Bay Area to perform over 2,000 surgeries using the most innovative robotic surgical system of its kind. The most recent surgeries include the area’s first robotic rectopexy, robotic single-site hysterectomy, robotic tubal reversal and robotic partial nephrectomy.

“The robotic technology enables surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures with precision and control,” said Stephen K. Jones, Chief Executive Office of Clear Lake Regional Medical Center. “The surgery also enables our patients to recover faster, experience less post-operative pain and scarring, and return to work sooner.” 

Robotic surgery is performed through a few small incisions by the surgeon who is seated at an ergonomically designed console. The view of the surgical field is transmitted in 3D HD vision through a camera that is inserted into one of the tiny incisions. The 3D HD view gives surgeons a picture of the field that they otherwise would not have if they were using traditional surgery.  The robot also features instruments designed with seven degrees of motion – a range of motion greater than the human wrist. The enhanced view of the field coupled with the dexterous, delicate instruments allow for a shorter recovery time, less tissue damage, less post-operative pain and less risk of infection.

Most recently, Dr. Crochet and Dr. Schnell performed a tubal reversal that resulted in Houston’s first successful post-surgical pregnancy.
