Webster, TX- Clear Lake Regional Medical Center and The American Diabetes Association (ADA) will host the third annual Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes (Step Out) on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Walter Hall Park at 9:00 a.m. Step Out is not only an opportunity to give back to the Clear Lake community, but also a way to help raise both awareness of the disease and funds for diabetes research, education, advocacy and local youth initiatives and programs.

Local sponsors include Starbucks, HEB, Target, Zoes Kitchen, Sports Authority, Kroger, Fresh Market, My Fit Foods, YMCA, Jazzercise, Zumba and many more.

Step Out is the largest annual diabetes event in the Clear Lake area and is also hosted in 120 cities nationwide with over 120,000 participants. Step Out is also the only walk in Clear Lake to support all types of diabetes – type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. Diabetes affects over 29 million children and adults in America and almost 2,200 people are diagnosed with diabetes every day. The purpose of Step Out is to raise awareness in the community, provide educational programs and fund research for a cure.

The event offers a choice of a non-competitive, family-friendly 3K walk, catering to all fitness levels. Following the walk, all participants are invited to the health and fitness festival. Kids’ activities, food samples, music, vendor booths, and other activities are available for all in attendance at no charge.

All participants joining the event with diabetes can sign up to become a Red Strider. A Red Strider is recognized by the ADA as a person living with diabetes. They are celebrated at ADA events with the VIP treatment and a special recognition gift the day of the celebration. Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is FREE to all participants.
